About Us

NOW’s purpose is to take action through intersectional grassroots activism to promote feminist ideals, lead societal change, eliminate discrimination, and achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in all aspects of social, political, and economic life.

The National Organization for Women is the largest feminist organization in the U.S. NOW members promote gender equality and women’s rights through grassroots advocacy. The Mid-Suffolk Chapter is dedicated to making a positive impact on its Long Island, NY community.

When she stopped conforming to the conventional picture of femininity, she finally began to enjoy being a woman.

Our Mission

We strive to promote gender equality and women's empowerment on Long Island since the 1970s.

Mid-Suffolk NOW is a chapter of the National Organization for Women located on Long Island, New York.

Our History

NOW was founded in 1966, just three years after the publication of Betty Friedan's The Feminine Mystique. NOW Mid-Suffolk is an outgrowth of the original Stony Brook University Campus Group, formed in the early 1970s. NOW Mid-Suffolk continues to have an active presence in our community fighting for gender equality and positive social change.
